Introduce Yourself

I want to know my participants in this blog, whether students or parents, so please take a moment to tell us about you! Students, what are your interests? What activities are you involved in? What are your hopes, dreams and aspirations? What do you think makes a great teacher? Parents, what is your background? What do you do for a living? What are your expectations for your child? What are your hopes and dreams for your child? What are your expectations of a great teacher? Elaborate as little or as much as you like. If you have a personal web site or blog you'd like to share, do it here!

Hello! My name is Katie Eisner, and I am an alumni of Mrs. Rock's Photography II class! I'm blessed to have had the pleasure of learning under each art teacher in TWHS Sr & Jr High, and I feel that each class was a unique and enlightening experience.
Photography stands out as very different than any other art class I have taken. Like in the other classes where hands-on interaction with one's art form is essential, a photographer creates art by developing the pictures by hand, and perhaps by layering or superimposing photos. But in photography, the aid of a machine to capture a photo frees the artist and allows him or her to concentrate soley on interpreting and communicating beauty in the world. Photography, as the process of capturing light, seems to me as a pure form of art in which principles of design cannot be dismissed among vivid colors or brushstrokes, and where the photographer's unique view of the world can be appreciated in a very straightforward manner (an image on a page; sans frills). Though I have heard people voice the opinion that photography isn't art, because of the reasons listed above I disagree; and the fact that more people can participate in it, in my eyes, does not diminish its value, but only increases its worth and raises the bar for artists.
Back to answering the questions asked ;)
I am involved in Art Club (which Mrs. Rock sponsors, so many thanks to her!)(actually working on flyers right now), National Art Honor Society (which Mrs. Rock also sponsors ^_^), the Literary Society, and NEHS. Art is a huge part of my life, and as a senior I'm deciding just how big a part it will play in my career...
Anyhoo, this website is pretty awesome; I don't know of any other teacher with a blog for her class... I hope it goes well, and I'll see y'all next year!
